Formula Friday: Holiday Hair Color

Are you in a bit of a holiday hair funk? We get it. Styling clients for some of the most anticipated days of the year can be a stressful time.

We’ve gathered some of our favorite festive formulas that will have you feeling inspired in no time!

Peach Punch

For a fall tone that is full of springtime memories, a peachy and rose with golden tones is the way to go. Check out the mixture below:

She was pre-lightened to a level 9/10 on her ends. I used 140 grams of Oway Hcolor 9.3 Very Light Blonde with 3.5 droppers of Oway Hmelt Playful Rose with Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer on wet hair and it sat for 25 minutes.

Fall Fanatic

Some people love fall more than any other season in the year. For the clients that can’t get enough Pumpkin Lattes:

I did small painted panels with 2 colors:

Oway Hcolor 8.34 Golden Copper Light Blonde with Oway Hcatalyst 20 Volume Cream Developer, Oway Hmelt Sunny Orange and Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer.
Oway Hcolor 6.62 Irisee Red Dark Blonde with 20 drops Oway Hmelt Playful Rose and Oway Hcatalyst 20 Volume Cream Developer for 20 minutes of processing.

Winter Mocha

A deep chocolate color is sometimes too hard to beat. To recreate this rich formula:

She came in with a level 3 solid base with pre-existing color. I decided to use a foilyage technique on her so I could incubate the lightened pieces for more lift.

I used Oway Hbleach Butter Cream Lightener and Oway Hcatalyst 30 Volume Cream Developer. I started in the front so it was the brightest. I took diagonal back partings and painted slants, the highest point being around the face.

When I got to the back I bricklayed wide panel V’s, the highest point being the center of the occipital for that nice halo of depth around her head.

I let her cook until she was a level 7, then toned her with Oway Hcolor 7.32 BA Havana Blonde and Oway Hcolor 8.1 Ash Light Blonde with Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer for a solid 20 minutes on damp hair.

Hocus Pocus

Halloween may be over, but some love to keep the magic of the holiday alive. A deep rooted and dimensional auburn color is perfect for the whimsical client. To achieve this look:

I used all Original & Mineral color! This lovely babe came in with previous dull red undertones and new growth and wanted to see more red and vibrancy throughout.

Root: 1/2 O&M CØR.color 5.0 Light Brown + 1/2 O&M CØR.color 55.55 Light Red Intense Brown + dot O&M CØR.color 20 Volume Activator, O&M CØR.color 5.6 Light Violet Brown + O&M CØR.color 20 Volume Activator.

Mids: 1/2 O&M CØR.color 66.46 Dark Red Intense Blonde + 1/4 O&M CØR.color 6.7 Dark Brunette Blonde + 1/4 O&M CØR.color 55.55 Light Red Intense Brown + O&M CØR.color 20 Volume Activator. Use a comb to drag down.

Ends: Clear + O&M CØR.color 10 Volume Activator.

Ember

This color ties in nights by the fireside and the transitioning color of fall leaves into a perfectly poised color. To achieve this unique mushroom brown, see below:

I did the toning in two steps. I toned her all over with what would be about an O&M CØR.color 9.16 Light Very Ash Violet Blonde. Let that process for the full time. Then went back with a O&M CØR.color 4.0 Brown and did more of a root tap than a shadow. Process for the full time.

Because she’s so dark naturally, I had to use that dark. Also, I wanted to make sure the O&M CØR.color 9.16 Light Very Ash Violet Blonde and O&M CØR.color 4.0 Brown didn’t mush together and make it muddy. So, I did it in two steps. I shampooed the first toner out before going back to tone the roots.
