Salon Marketing Tips for a Meaningful Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Did you know it’s the third most popular retail holiday, just behind the winter holidays and Valentine’s Day? In fact in 2018, the total consumer spending was over $23 billion. 14% of that figure went to personal services like salons and spas.

This year, these figures are expected to go even higher as experts predict that many moms will want to receive a gift of experience, rather than physical gifts.

As holistic hair stylists, we are in the service business, so this is the perfect time to offer an unforgettable experience and build lasting client relationships. After all, mothers deserve nothing but the best, especially on their special day.

Here are five simple ways to make Mother’s Day a success but also keep them coming back!

Mother’s Day Salon Marketing Tips

Gift Cards

Gift Cards are the most obvious marketing opportunity but sweetening the deal a little bit by adding value will make your business stand out. So this is how you can spice it up, package gift card sales with slow moving inventory.

FOR EXAMPLE

Purchase a $100 gift card and receive a free travel-size product.

OR

Purchase a $200 gift card and choose products that are already in a gift set.

Be sure to post your gift card deals throughout your space – not just at the front desk but also at your station, on your mirrors, in the restrooms.

With this deal, you’re not only giving clients more reason to spend in your business, but you’re also able to liquidate that slow-moving inventory.

Mother & Daughter Event

With many moms opting for experience rather than material gifts, spending quality time and getting pampered with their daughter is something they would love to be part of. Create a group deal where they both receive a service for a special rate.

The experience is what its about: As soon as they come in, offer a flower, beverage or hor d’oeuvres. The goal is to make it a memorable visit so they keep coming back.

Collaborate with Other Businesses

Collaborating with other small businesses in your area that would interest moms is a great way to network, draw in a gain new customers and keep lower marketing costs. Reach out to small wineries, bakeries and boutiques to create gift baskets for giveaway, then post the goodies on social media to promote your sponsors.

This way you’re not only promoting your own business, but you’re also doing the same for them.

Offer Service Packages

Packages take the guesswork out of finding gifts for loved ones. Plus, this is a good way to introduce a potential client to your salon without the commitment. For example: You can bundle simple service packages for a discount, like a blowout with a scalp treatment and makeup application. This is an experience everybody would love to receive – it takes the pressure off the purchaser, and gives you an opportunity to wow them and turn them into a lifetime client.

For spas:
  1. Mani + Pedi + Facial (10% OFF)
  2. Facial + Massage + Blowout (15% OFF)
  3. Express Mani + Express Pedi + Express Facial/Massage (20% OFF)
For Salons:
  1. Haircut and Style + Deep conditioner/treatment + Makeup Application (10% OFF)
  2. Blowout + Makeup Application + Skincare or Hair Styling Product (15% OFF)

Mommy & Me Makeover Giveaway

Use social media by making a fun contest for mom and daughter to win a free makeover. Giveaways are a great idea to gain exposure for your business and build connections.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Ask followers to comment on your giveaway post and tag their mother, daughter or friend to win a makeover. For bonus points, ask them to repost the giveaway so their friends can see it and give your business the exposure it needs.

The makeover doesn’t have to be extravagant, just enough to make a noticeable difference like a hair cut, gloss & makeup touch up. Be sure to announce the winner early so they can gift the makeover on Mother’s Day.. Don’t forget to snap a before and after photo and post on your social media.
