Get the Look: The Best 2018 Grammy Awards Hair & Hairstyles

grammy-awards-red-carpet-beauty

If there’s one thing that the Grammy Awards is known for, it’s the red carpet arrivals. Unlike the other awards shows, musicians and celebrities are not afraid to go over the top when it comes to their outfit, makeup, and hair style at the Grammys, which makes it one of the most highly anticipated shows by hairdressers and salon owners. It’s a great place to find inspiration and stay current on the latest trends.

Check out favorite looks from the 2018 Grammy Awards Red Carpet!

Hailee Steinfeld

COLOR

For clients with long hair, keep it simple. Use O&M CØR.color 4.0 Brown and O&M CØR.color 0.00 Clear with O&M CØR.color 5 vol Semi Activator from roots to ends to create a super shiny and glass-like reflection on her dark hair. Then, use the O&M Seven Day Miracle Moisture Masque to add extra moisture and settle any fly away hair.

STYLE

Start with O&M Know Knott Detangling Spray to add a kick of argan oil to the hair while removing 80% of the moisture. Then layer O&M Atonic Hair Thickening Spritz throughout the hair and dry fully using a large round brush to smooth (but not straighten). You would want to use the hair’s natural texture. Then, using a large barrel tong/iron, twist hair around the barrel 2 inches from scalp and twist to 2 inches from the bottom to create a modern wave.

Once done, give the waves a shake and spray with O&M Original Queenie Firm Hold Hair Spray to set style.

Chrissy Teigen

COLOR

After using the O&M Paint Powder Clay Lightener to give texture to the hair, add depth to the roots with O&M CØR.color 4.1 Ash Brown, and O&M CØR.color 7.13 Cool Beige Blonde to the ends. Then, use the O&M The Power Base Protein Treatment to strengthen and soften the highly colored hair.

STYLE

Create a soft wave by using the O&M Atonic Hair Thickening Spritz to nourish the hair while removing the moisture. Then, place a mix of O&M Rootalicious Root Lift Spray and O&M Frizzy Logic Shine Serum in the hair. Round brush the hair in small sections and place it in rollers to cool down and keep the wave. Let all the hair cool down to set the curl.

Afterwards, you can use a paddle brush to brush the wave behind the ear and create the face frame flick on her face. Set the style with O&M Surf Bomb Sea Salt Texture Spray to give a less shiny finish to the hair while setting it in place.

Lana Del Rey

COLOR

Glaze is the key word. To do this, layer color through the hair. Start with O&M CØR.color 4.7 Brunette Brown (demi), then lay the O&M CØR.color 0.00 Clear over the top for a true color glaze effect. Layering color like this creates major shine and smoothness on the hair.

STYLE

Apply O&M Know Knott Detangling Spray and O&M Project Sukuroi Gold Smoothing Hair Balm onto the hair to deliver a poker straight finish. Use a natural bristle round brush to stretch hair smooth. Use small sections and make sure your tension is consistent. Add more Project Sukuroi to dry hair and use a flat iron to lock in moisture and prevent any moisture from getting into the cuticle to prevent frizz.

Once the part is in place, use a metal end tail comb to create a perfectly straight line from forehead to crown. Finish with the new O&M Frizzy Logic Finishing Shine Spray.

Erin Lim

Erin-Lim-grammys-2018

COLOR

Start with a base color of O&M CØR.color 6.8 Dark Pearl Blonde using O&M CØR.color 20 vol Activator to lighten the hair without creating warmth. Next, add a few face-framing foils using O&M Ammonia Free Pearl White Powder Lightener with O&M CØR.color 10 vol Activator (lift on lift to prevent toning). A clear gloss in O&M CØR.color 0.00 Clear will seal color and coat the hair to increase the size of each hair with more shine and added thickness.

STYLE

Start by applying O&M Frizzy Logic Shine Serum into damp hair and using a large flat brush to smooth out the hair. Once dry, spray with O&M Atonic Hair Thickening Spritz which will act as a heat protectant while you add texture with a curling iron. Pull the hair to the nape, allowing the hair to fall softly onto the face around the cheek bone. Twist and secure hair at nape in a soft ballerina bun. Bobby and fringe pins are ideal.

Spray bun with O&M Original Queenie Firm Hold Hair Spray to secure and set the bun. This look is designed to be soft and natural, so if a few hairs fall out, even better! Softness is the key.

Kristin Cavallari

COLOR

It’s all about the warm-toned blondes for Kristin Cavallari. To achieve this rich warm blonde, use Oway Hbleach Butter Cream Lightener with Oway Hcatalyst 30 Volume Cream Developer to create a heavy highlight along with a lowlight throughout with Oway Hcolor 7.31 Beige Blonde  and Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer. Add babylights around the face with Htone brighten and frame the face.

STYLE

To replicate Kristin Cavallari’s red carpet Grammy look, do a voluminous blow out with an extra-large round brush and a cocktail of Oway Flux Potion with Oway Glossy Nectar on her ends to cut blow drying time and add shine. After blowdrying each section, pin up the hair until it cools to maintain and set the curl for a waved ponytail. After all cooled, comb the hair with a soft-bristled brush using Oway Glamshine Cloud to control fly-aways. Then, pull the hair up to create a high pony.

Next, take a small section of hair underneath the pony and wrap around the base to cover the elastic. Secure with a pin. Finish with Oway Sculpting Mist for hold and a final spritz of Glamshine Cloud for shine and control.

Lady Gaga

COLOR

Lady Gaga came to the Grammy’s with a bright elegant style. To recreate her look, use Oway Hbleach Butter Cream Lightener and Oway Hcatalyst 40 Volume Cream Developer on scalp to achieve the lift and brightness. Freshen ends with Hbleach and Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer. After lightening the hair to desired level, do an Oway Hmilk No Stress Conditioning Treatment to adjust the hair’s porosity and prep hair for toning. Finally, tone with Oway Hcolor 10.1 Ash Extra Light Blonde and Htone to neutralize any warmth.

STYLE

Prep the hair with Oway Volumizing Root Spray to give volume and hold prior to drying. Then, apply Oway Smoothing Fluid to add softness without weight while protecting the hair during the drying stage.

Next, part the hair down the middle, taking a section of hair near the hairline on both sides. Create a fishtail braid on either side, securing them with an elastic tie once finished braiding. Then, take a black a string and weave through the braids to create a corset-like pattern. Using the remaining section of hair underneath, do another fishtail braid and tuck the woven braids into it to merge them together. Finish with Oway Sculpting Mist and the ends with Oway Precious Wax to add some texture.

Steal the Look: The Best Hair Moments at the SAG Awards 2018 Red Carpet

SAG-awards-2018-red-carpet-beauty

For us hair stylists, perhaps the most interesting part of every awards show is the Red Carpet Event. We’re curious to see the hair style and color our favorite celebrity chose to wear this time around, hoping we can replicate it in the salon the next day.

So last Sunday, we tuned in on the 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, California and picked the best hairdos of the night.

Check out our favorite hair colors and styles below!

Reese Witherspoon

COLOR

Use the O&M CØR.color 12.8 Super Pearl Blonde to lighten her base and form the foundation. To add some pops of blonde, use the O&M Ammonia Free Keratin Powder Lightener in foils with an O&M CØR.color 10 vol Activator to add contrast without putting too much stress on the hair. Then, tone with O&M CØR.color 9.8 Very Light Pearl Blonde using O&M CØR.color 5 vol Semi Activator to clean up the ends and give a creamy pearl blonde glow to the hair.

STYLE

To prep the hair, treat with O&M The Power Base Protein Treatment. It adds protein from rice to rebuild the hair, with moisture added to keep the hair soft. Next, layer the hair with O&M Atonic Hair Thickening Spritz to give nourishment and help build the texture. Then layer with O&M Rootalicious Root Lift Spray and finish by blow drying the hair.

Afterwards, part the hair on the side you feel is best (yes, everyone even Reese has a better side), then use a curling iron on a 90-degree angle to create the wave. Remember to take all sections in the same direction to create a finger wave. Spray with O&M Original Queenie Firm Hold Hair Spray to set in place. Et voila – your client is red carpet ready!

Renée Bargh

renee-bargh-sag-awards

COLOR

Start this vacation blonde look off by using the O&M Paint Powder Clay Lightener to add interest to mid-lengths and ends. Once processed, use O&M CØR.color 7 .13 Cool Beige Blonde with O&M CØR.color 10 vol Activator to add shading at the root level. Then, use O&M CØR.color 10.03 Lightest Beige Blonde and O&M CØR.color 5 vol Semi Activator through ends to add a subtle beige tone to the ends, a true melt of tones. The addition of O&M Seven Day Miracle Moisture Masque will help to lock in color and maintain moisture.

STYLE

Renée Bargh’s SAG hair style is all about body. To replicate her style, dry the moisture out of hair with a mix of O&M Atonic Hair Thickening Spritz and O&M Know Knott Detangling Spray for subtle moisture and body building properties. Then add O&M Surf Bomb Sea Salt Texture Spray, which is designed for giving texture without shine.

This look is very modern as it’s not about high-gloss hair but more about a smoky opaque look. Once dry, use a large barrel tong to define the waves/curl around face and do a French twist/plait through the back. To set style, use a mist of the Surf Bomb as a hairspray/setting lotion.

Saoirse Ronan

COLOR

To achieve this stand out blonde, use O&M Ammonia Free Pearl White Powder Lightener and 20vol as an on-scalp lightener. Process to blend with her mids to ends color. Then, treat the hair with O&M The Power Base Protein Treatment which rebuilds the hair using rice protein and adds moisture, making this the perfect product to use after bleaching but before toning. Then, use a mix of O&M CØR.color Sand Toner and O&M CØR.color 0.00 Clear to glaze and add extra dimension.

STYLE

With highly treated colored hair, a great way to start any blowout is to use O&M Atonic Hair Thickening Spritz to add some body and protect the hair from heat styling tools. Once the moisture is taken out of the hair, the second step is to add some O&M Style Guru Styling Cream which is like a Vitamin E cream for the hair, giving it some body and nourishment.

saoirse-ronan-sag-awards

Once the hair is 100% blow-dried, spray some more Atonic over the hair; then, use an iron to create a small amount of bend around the cheek to lip area. Afterwards, loosely shake the wave out. With a tangle-free hair tie, secure firmly at the name and wrap some hair around the tie to hide. You’re all set to win some awards!

Olivia Munn

olivia-munn-sag-awards

COLOR

Shine factor: 10! Olivia Munn’s SAG Awards hair is a layer of 2 semi colors back to back. Start with O&M CØR.color 4.1 Ash Brown  and O&M CØR.color 5 vol Semi Activator, then rinse and add layer 1/2 4.1 Ash Brown with half O&M CØR.color 0.00 Clear. This will amp up the shine value by using a clear gloss to seal the tone and plump the cuticle.

STYLE

Spray O&M Know Knott Detangling Spray into the hair then apply O&M Project Sukuroi Gold Smoothing Hair Balm, a repair balm that contains keratin for strength and shine, locks in moisture in and stop frizz.

Blow hair out with a Denman brush, poker straight. Then with your fingertips, place some more Project Sukuroi on the hair and iron. The rose fragrance will be a hit with anyone who comes near. The gold oil will repair the hair and give it a wig like look – perfection for straight hair!

When combing hair to create the part, make sure to spray comb with O&M Original Queenie Firm Hold Hair Spray to stop any static and fly away hair.

Mandy Moore

COLOR

To achieve Mandy Moore’s glam red carpet look at the SAG Awards, paint the regrowth with Oway Hcolor 5.56 Red Mahogany Light Blonde and Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer at a 1:1 ratio. Then, balayage ends with Oway Hbleach Butter Cream Lightener and Oway Hcatalyst 20 Volume Cream Developer for that sunkissed look. Tone with Oway Hcolor 7.35 BT Tobacco Blonde with Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer at a 1:1.5 ratio. Finish the look by shampooing the hair with Oway Hbalance Post-Color Neutralizing Shampoo and Mask to bring back the hair and scalp to their natural pH balance.

STYLE

Replicate Mandy’s voluminous curls by applying some Oway Flux Potion and a cocktail of Oway Smoothing Cream and Oway Glossy Nectar on the ends before blowdrying. Then spray Oway Thermal Stress Protector prior to curling the hair.

Finger comb the curls with Oway Boho Pomade to soften and define the tendrils and a spritz of Oway Sculpting Mist to give it long-lasting hold.

Nicole Kidman

COLOR

No one does red carpet like Nicole Kidman. Known for her elegance and style, it’s not surprising everyone wants to copy her looks. To replicate her SAG Awards 2018 hair, lighten the hair with Oway Hbleach Butter Cream Lightener with Oway Hcatalyst 40 Volume Cream Developer. Then tone first with a mix of Oway Hcolor 10.1 Ash Extra Light Blonde and Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer at a 1:1.5 ratio. Followed by equal parts Oway Hcolor 10.1 Ash Extra Light Blonde and Oway Hcolor 11.17 Frosted Platinum with Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer at a 1:1.5 ratio.

STYLE

To recreate Nicole Kidman’s signature chignon updo, apply some Oway Volumizing Root Spray to give the roots some volume and a dash of Oway Smoothing Fluid for some shine and heat protection. Next, spray Oway Thermal Stress Protector before curling the hair. Pin up the curls to the side, creating a low chignon while leaving out some tendrils on the other side to frame the face.

Finish with Oway Sculpting Mist and Oway Glamshine Cloud for the extra hold and shine.

Spritz O&M Surf Bomb Sea Salt Texture Spray to hair and dry with a Denman brush to keep hair smooth and flat. Use O&M C-Paste Texture Cream to separate pieces for a polished textured look. COLOR

Add some interest to the hair by adding pops of painted strands with O&M Paint Powder Clay Lightener. Then, layer this with O&M CØR.color 8.7 Light Brunette Blonde, which will add very natural sunkissed highlights. This is also a great time to add O&M CØR.color 0.00 Clear all over the hair to protect it from fade and seal the ends for heat protection.

STYLE

Spray O&M Atonic Hair Thickening Spritz onto damp hair and add a few drops of O&M Frizzy Logic Shine Serum to the ends, then dry to 80% dry and follow with O&M Rootalicious Root Lift Spray. Continue to dry. To add volume, create lift on one side of the face with a round brush by blowing off and up, creating a small wave. Set with O&M Original Queenie Firm Hold Hair Spray. Pull hair back to a low soft ponytail, loop hair up and wrap it around the ponytail.

Finally, secure with a fringe pin to hide the band holding the ponytail. Spray with O&M Frizzy Logic Finishing Shine Spray to finish the look.

Margot Robbie

COLOR

To achieve Margot Robbie’s gorgeous Golden Globes Glam look, do a shadow melt technique with Oway Hcolor 7.01 Ash Natural Blonde. Then, add babylights with Oway Hbleach Butter Cream Lightener with Oway Hcatalyst 20 Volume Cream Developer. Be sure to decolorize first the hair to a pale yellow/white and tone with Oway Hcolor 11.17 Frosted Platinum over some of the prelightened hair. Leave some of the babylights out to add blonde dimension.

STYLE

Following the color service, wash with Oway Hbalance Post-Color Neutralizing Shampoo and condition with Oway Hbalance Post-Color pH Mask to restore the hair to its proper PH. Spray some Oway Volumizing Root Spray throughout and add Oway Glossy Nectar before blow-drying. Use a natural bristle round brush to create some bounce through the ends.

Take a low-heated flat iron and create a loose wave through the tips. Sweep to one side to create softness around the face and mist lightly with Oway Glamshine Cloud. Lock in this beauty with Oway Sculpting Mist. Glamour is in the air.

COLOR

Use Oway Hcolor 5.32 CDI Irisee Golden Light Brown with Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer as a root melt application. Then, do a hand painting balayage using Oway Hbleach Butter Cream Lightener. Working heavier with your product towards the ends of the hair, lift to a yellow/white remaining pigment and then glaze with Oway Hcolor 9.1 Ash Very Light Blonde and Oway Htone 9 Volume Cream Developer. This will create a beautiful sparkling root melt finish with light, glamorous ends.
